1941 Pair of US Army Air Force Snow Shoes Made by Strand Ski Co, St Paul MN
Up for sale is a Pair of. 1941 Pair of US Army Air Force Snow Shoes made by the Strand Ski Co. This company made some of the equipment for the U. Army 10th Mountain Division and these snowshoes could be similar. My grandpa bought these from an Army surplus store after WWII for winter hunting. The pair weighs 5.41 lbs and are 10″ wide by 56″ tall. The tail ends of the snowshoes are secured with copper rivets. Information is impressed or wood burned into each of the snowshoes: 1941 U. They have there own production numbers of 0349 & 0402. One is slightly longer than the other, by about 1/8″ – 1/4″. There is enough of the one of the blue and white decals on the center board of the snowshoes to read the Strand name. The front of the snowshoes have an 8 upward sweep. Since it will be an oversized package, there will be an extra surcharge added on. I’m going to wrap the shoes with carpet padding and then use an outer tight plastic skin. I appreciate being paid within three days, please. I unscrewed the end hardward out of the handled of the one handle where the hardware looked like it was missing a piece. When I got it unscrewed, I could see that other side of the yoke or fork was broken off. So, unless a new fork is welded on, this handle will not be functional. Sorry folks for not exploring this better before I llisted it. This item is in the category “Collectibles\Militaria\WW II (1939-45)\Original Period Items\United States\Field Gear, Equipment”.
