Vintage U. S. Army Air Force Original Hand Colored Advertisement Poster Artwork
This is an awesome example of really early advertising and/or recruitment mechanism for the Army Air Force Aviation that is an original Illustration and just a beautiful piece of artwork – hand colored! As seen in the poster, there are four images. A man shown with a book/notebook and pencil in hand. The front of a plane with two men inside and one on the ground look up at the men in the plane. A man looking proudly in the mirror at himself. A man getting his Aviation wings pinned on. In the center of the four images is a blue circle with a white star with a red circle in its center with gold wings on the star’s side. Below the images, is a narrative about the “Four Ways to go places in Aviation” which describe how you can get into the U. The poster advertisement measures 16 1/4″ x 13 1/4″ and was done, as noted on the back, by N. Ayer and Son Inc. Which is an advertising agency founded in Philadelphia, PA in 1869. The agency is known as the oldest advertising agency in the U. And was named after Francis Ayer’s father N. The poster is original and does show signs of its age. Someone seems to have taken a pencil and crossed-out some of the wording and re-written some words on the side margins. Additionally, there is a pen mark on the right hand bottom side by the writing, and there are some age marks/discoloration as well as the back seems to have gotten wet. Please view all pictures.
