WWII US M3 FLAK HELMET, US ARMY AIR FORCES, c/w HEADBAND & INSTRUCTION SHEET
Today I can offer for sale a very nice, original, estate-found vintage WWII US Army Air Forces “M3″ FLAK / GUNNERS helmet. These were produced in from what I understand, quite limited numbers during WWII to offer extra protection for air crews and gunners on Army Air Force bombers. They featured folding “ear flaps”, which could facilitate comm-gear while being worn. The helmet has its original OD green paint w/ the sort of “fuzzy” coating, which I believe was meant to act as a form of light insulation due to the high altitude, frigid temperatures in which they would typically be worn. The helmet is also complete with its original khaki HBT head harness, and even includes the original instruction sheet which illustrates how to adjust the headband. Interestingly, there is a set of stenciled initials in white paint to the obverse / front of the helmet, M. C, the meaning of which eludes me, but it appears to have been on the helmet for a very long time. Overall, the helmet is in very nice condition, the only liability I can ascertain is that one of the circular thick brown felt ear-insulation pads is missing from one of the ear flaps. Otherwise, the helmet is in overall very good, vintage condition. Not so easy to find any more, this will be a nice addition to someones collection. I do not, as a rule, post any items to China or far eastern European / Soviet federation (former Soviet bloc), countries.
