These were originally adopted in 1942 for the B-4 emergency bail out kit that was usually attached to a parachute harness. There were a few manufacturers that made these including Cattaraugus, Case XX and Imperial. This one is made by Case XX. Case XX made both folding and non-folding machetes. Overall, this fixed blade machete is in Very Good – Very Good Plus condition. The four (4x) rivets securely fasten the grips to the tang. They have some light discoloration. The wood overall is starting to darken with age. There are no nicks or dings on the blade edge and it appears to have its original factory edge. The tip is intact and comes to a dull round point. Most of the original blued finish still remains. The left side of the blade is marked “CASE XX”. This knife has NO scabbard, but it does have a metal blade protector. The metal blade protector is in Very Good – Very Good Plus condition. It is manually pulled on and pushed on. It has good form and stays in place as it should. There is light finish loss along the leading edges, but otherwise it retains its original blued finish. There are no markings on the blade protector. This USAF survival fixed blade machete knife will be a great addition to your WWII USAF collection, or a knife collection in general. As with all used items, a light cleaning may be necessary to meet your standards. Please see our photographs for a better understanding of the contents and its condition.
