AAF pilots of WW2 were issued the aviator’s kit bag to carry their flight jacket, helmet, oxygen mask, goggles, and other vital gear aboard the aircraft on missions. These were general purpose carrying bags used by aircrews and paratroopers to haul their uniforms and equipment. Original AAF WW2 aviator kit bags are rare today. It is stamped AVIATORS KIT BAG / AN 6505-1 / PROPERTY / U. GOVERNMENT at the right front much like the originals. This bag also feature two triple stamped TALON zip fasteners. These are reproduction examples as original zippers are hard to find. The bag comes with a nice touch. Each of these zips has a zip pull attached. Pilots often used zip pulls on equipment and clothing so they could comfortably get into and out of flight equipment even when wearing heavy cumbersome gloves. The tags on this bag features leather versions of a bomb tag and similarly a B17 aircraft manufacturers plate. The canvas is heavy number 8 100% cotton duck, custom dyed and finished to match original WWII olive drab (OD) shade 3 fabric. The webbing is shuttle loomed and yarn dyed, in the same widths and weaves as the WWII material. Markings are screened with water based ink and heat cured, and the Scovil snaps are the same zinc plated models used on jump uniforms. The bag is closed via two Solid brass Talon brand zippers. It has five pockets on the interior of the bag. Two large and three smaller pockets. The bag carries the traditional maker’s label under the dual snap closure flap at the middle top.
