Wwii U. S. Army Air Force M3 Flak Helmet
This is an original M3 flak helmet, the first model introduced in 1943 by the U. Army Air Forces to protect bomber crews from shrapnel injuries during high-altitude missions. Designed to be worn over the standard leather flying helmet, the M3 offered vital protection without compromising communication. Steel shell with distinctive M1-style profile. Hinged armored ear flaps to accommodate aircrew headsets. Original canvas chin strap with snap closure for quick release. Retains original paint finish, liner, and strap. Felt pads missing, minor surface rust spotting consistent with age. First of three American flak helmet variants. Replaced bulkier headgear and set the standard for later models. Used extensively by bomber crews in WWII’s European and Pacific theaters.
